Both men are knocked down and the shark-speaker gets up and approaches Vex while pulling out a blade as Vax appears behind him and slits the shark-speaker's throat.Īs Vax crumples to the ground, Vex rushes over, apologizing for being so "keen on the chase". The shark-speaker throws a spear at Vex, who dodges out of the way and shoots the shark dead through the eye. At that moment, Vax is pulled beneath the water, causing Vex to scream his name and fire and few arrows, prompting a shark to rise up, with Vax in its mouth and a shark-speaker on its back. She turns around to see her brother stuck, knee-deep in water, for which she scolds him. Vex speculates that there is an entity that is likely profiting from the curse and kneels down to taste the water, finding it interesting that the swamp water is saltwater. Hired to investigate the source of this curse, Vax suggests they speak to that mother or other locals, but Vex dismisses both ideas, thinking the townsfolk would only give an ignorant answer such as demons, although Vax reminds her that they were raised by a peasant. Vax and Vex step out from a nearby tree and discuss what they had just witnessed. As two shark-speaker hands pull the baby under the water, the woman is dragged back to Stilben as the older woman notes that more babies die before the end of the night. Considering her too weak to do what she believes necessary to satisfy the "Lady of the Muck", the old woman rips the baby from the young woman's arms and tosses it into the lake while the mother, restrained by the man, cries out for her child. The mother shows the others that her baby is still breathing, taking it to be a sign that its health will improve, but the older woman disagrees, thinking the baby to be cursed and the curse a punishment for the mother and her partner for "the way live". Synopsis Ī young human mother, carrying her baby, is accompanied by an elderly human woman and another human man as they walk through the swampland surrounding Stilben. Things are not what they seem for the adventurous siblings…between fighting shark-riding fish men and black-clad assassins, they meet an antlered half-elven druid with her own theory about the curse. Roguish twins Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia investigate a curse afflicting the impoverished citizens of the port city of Stilben. Along the way, they meet the young druid Keyleth, who offers her insight on the matter, but a later ambush in an alleyway proves that more is at work than meets the eye. The plot follows twin half-elves Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia, who had been hired to investigate what they believe to be a curse that has befallen the waters of the swamp town of Stilben. It was written by Matthew Mercer and Matthew Colville and the art was done by Olivia Samson. “He was looking for somebody else to go with him in direction, and I just happened to be going that way, ” McGuinn recounted in Rolling Stone. He had spent two years with the very commercial folk group the New Christy Minstrels and in 1964 was frequenting folk clubs, writing Beatleseque songs, and looking for a partner. ” Clark and Crosby Joined McGuinnĬlark, like McGuinn, was a midwestern folkie who had relocated to Los Angeles. Then David Crosby came in and started singing harmony. He asked if I wanted to write some songs with him. He was one of the few people who understood it. … Later on I ran into Gene Clark at the Troubador. I used to get mad at ‘em because I thought it was good. As he told Rolling Stone in 1990, “I came out and started blending Beatles stuff with the folk stuff, and the audience hated it. He began playing Beatles songs during his sets at the Los Angeles folk club the Troubador, but -though still using an acoustic 12-string guitar -he added a rock-like beat to the folk material. ” The Beatles showed McGuinn the way back to rock and roll. “I started with Elvis, and I was heavily into Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, the Everly Brothers, and Johnny Cash -that whole rockabilly, Memphis sound. “I started with rock, ” he told Guitar Player. ”Īctually, McGuinn had never been a folk purist. He recalled of those days in Mike Jahn ’s book Rock, “I knew folk music was on its last legs. In 1964 McGuinn was playing coffeehouses in Los Angeles. He had also played with Bobby Darin, the Chad Mitchell Trio, and the Limeliters. Byrds founder Roger McGuinn was a moderately successful folksinger who had backed up his then-more-famous colleague Judy Collins, playing 12-string guitar and banjo on her recordings of the classic Pete Seeger compositions “Turn! Turn! Turn! ” and “The Bells of Rhymney, ” among others. The Byrds were formed in 1964 -when the British Invasion was at its height and the early 1960s folk scene that had built an intellectual wing onto American popular music was fading. The Byrds reclaimed rock and roll as an American music form in the wake of the Beatles-led British Invasion of English bands and brought a previously unimagined level of lyricism and artistic experimentation to pop music. They left their mark on the sounds of the Eagles, Tom Petty, R.E.M., and hundreds of less well-known artists. Originators of folk-rock and pioneers of acid- and country-rock, the Byrds were one of the most influential bands in rock history. Woven wire gauges are used to determine the size and wire diameter of the fence. These crimps not only make the fence more sturdy but also give it a more appealing visual effect. Intercrimp Wire Mesh: This mesh builds on the locking system of the lock-crimp wire mesh with an added bump in between the intersections. These little bumps make the fence more rigid and secure. At each intersection, the over wire pinches around the under wire to form a lock. Lock Crimp Wire Mesh: This woven wire follows the same weave design of over and under that is similar to the plain wire mesh but with a twist. The end result is a fence with a smooth appearance and surface. It follows a basic weave pattern of over-and-under interlacing warp wire and fill wire. Plain Wire Mesh: One of the simplest woven wire fences.Types of Woven Wireĭespite the many designs and weave patterns available in the market, woven wire fences can be categorized in these three broad categories. It’s also the right wire fencing to use in pastures to contain livestock. This makes it ideal for filtration processes as well as gardening work. The fence doesn’t break under pressure and can handle strong winds or water currents without breaking. It is quite flexible and easy to bend, reshape, twist, and pull. Woven wire fencing is a fence made of woven wire. Woven wire is easy to customize during the weaving process to suit different needs. Woven wire, as the name implies, is a series of metal wires interlocked according to a certain pattern to create a mesh sheet with a specific opening size, weave patterns, and wire diameter. Read more to find out when to use each type of mesh wire and how best to use it. When deciding between flexible woven wire and heavy-duty welded wire, the choice isn’t always clear. Welded wire is heavy-duty mesh welded at the cross sections making it sturdier and more durable than woven wire. What’s the difference between woven wire and welded wire? Woven wire is pieces of interlacing wire woven together to create a flexible mesh that you can use for fencing pasture meant for large livestock animals. Each has its own applications, advantages, and drawbacks. When it comes to mesh wire, you have two options, Either go with woven wire or if you’re looking for heavy-duty mesh, welded wire. Once you’ve minted an NFT, you determine the starting price and how much in royalties you want to receive. If your NFT sells, however, you’ll be charged an additional “gas fee” which tends to fluctuate greatly. Once you’ve chosen your platform, the cost of minting an NFT will typically range anywhere between $70 - $100. Then, you’ll need to do some research on NFT marketplaces to choose the right platform based on the kind of digital assets you plan on selling. What does the process look like for creating (or ‘minting’) an NFT, and how much will it cost you?įirst, you’ll need to have ETH (the cryptocurrency used for all transactions on Ethereum) and set up an ethereum wallet. If you’re a graphic designer, you might be wondering how you can start turning your digital creations into sought-after NFTs. Ultimately, NFTs allow digital artists to create scarcity for their creations, track future sales on that artwork, and share in the future value created. With NFTs, this royalty is automatically collected and distributed on every sale through the decentralized blockchain. The concept is similar to royalties with the main difference being that NFTs can be automatically tracked and reconciled using the blockchain with no third-party required. NFTs allow digital artists to create value and scarcity for their creations, track future sales on that artwork, and share in the future value created. As the original creator of the digital asset, you get a cut from every future sale of that NFT. However, when you sell a digital file through an NFT, you continue to make money long after that first transaction. Traditionally in the art world, once a physical piece is sold, the artist no longer receives revenue from its future sales. The original portrait is considered to be a non-fungible asset as it is unique and can not be interchanged. Of course, a Mona Lisa print does not hold the same value as the original portrait. There is only one original Mona Lisa housed at the Louvre-but there are thousands of prints for sale on the market. A classic example to illustrate non-fungibility is the famous Mona Lisa painting. Unlike currency, non-fungible assets are unique and can not be interchanged. The value of a $100 dollar bill will stay the same if you exchange it for five $20 dollar bills. Non-Fungibleīefore diving further into how NFTs work, it’s worth understanding the difference between fungibility and non-fungiblity.Ī fungible asset is an asset that can be exchanged (or substituted) with similar assets of the same value. The more hype this piece of digital content gets, the more value the NFT accrues. When you buy an NFT, the digital content can still travel freely through the internet, but you own the “real” original file. Simply put, an NFT, or Non-Fungible Token, is a unit of currency stored on the blockchain that contains a unique digital file (e.g. Let’s get straight into it! What is an NFT? But what exactly does it mean, and as a designer, why should you care? In this article, we explore what NFTs mean in the context of digital art, plus, what it takes to make money with NFTs. You’ve probably heard the term NFT, or Non-Fungible Token thrown around a lot lately. Once you have reached a certain point with a number of characters, they will start taking Ambrosia instead of Nectar. In order to keep on deepening that relationship, sometimes you'll have to talk to them for a couple of times (which will appear in the description below inside their index), but if it says that you need to deepen your relationship with them, that means they will want Nectar. If you check the index, it will showcase you how many hearts you have obtained with the character thus far. This will increase your relationship with said character, signalized as a heart. If it's your first time, chances are Zagreus will obtain a new Keepsake in return. Pressing it first won't skip the dialogue so it's always best to do so. Once you get your hands on Nectar in Hades, every time you approach a key character (either underworld NPCs, people in the House of Hades, or God Boons) you'll see the regular dialogue button prompt, as well as a new prompt with the drink's icon. Thankfully by the time you become able to use Ambrosia, you're gonna have more than a few ready to gift away, but keep this in mind for future runs - increasing the Heat in the Pact of Punishment to renew your weapons' rewards will guarantee more of this item. Lastly, you can also trade items for it (5x Chthonic Keys) in the house lounge.Īmbrosia is a bit more complicated. At times, some Boons will give them as reward, as well as other bonuses for your current run the next time you grab another bottle. You just have to choose that path, take all Shades down, and grab it as a reward. You'll often see them as rewards before entering a room, pictured as this orange flask that looks like a potion. Nectar can be obtained during runs most of the time. Doing so will unlock different things, such as Keepsakes, as well as new narrative events and side stories. Everyone loves them, which makes them the perfect gift to strength your relationships with your relatives. These two items are a rarity of sorts in the underworld, historically portrayed as forbidden beverages. The company didn't let on that it was considering it as a possible successor for Calibri, Matteson said in an interview with CNBC this week.Īt the time, Matteson was still working for the font company Monotype, and he and his colleagues gave Microsoft four or five proposals to look at, without including the names of the contributors. In 2019, Microsoft asked font designer Steve Matteson to develop a font in the grotesque sans-serif style that includes the classic Helvetica. Many people perceive Microsoft as a friendlier place since Satya Nadella replaced Steve Ballmer as its CEO in 2014, but that updated identity isn't necessarily reflected when someone starts writing an email in Outlook with a font that predates Nadella. That includes older standards, such as Times New Roman, Arial or even Calibri, which has been the default since 2007, before the launch of Office 365 in 2011. Users can also choose to set any other font as the default. "And, over the next few months it will roll out to be the default for all our customers."Īptos will remain available in the font list under the old Bierstadt name for people who are accustomed to it. "Today we begin the final phase of this major change where Aptos will start appearing as the new default font across Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel for hundreds of millions of users," Si Daniels, principal program manager for Office design at Microsoft, wrote in a blog post published Thursday. The company is now ready to do that, after accepting input from end users about the five new fonts. If the core applications look fresh, Microsoft can make a better argument when the time comes to renew subscriptions to Microsoft 365, formerly known as Office 365. They're growing faster than other parts of the business, such as video game content and search advertising, as Microsoft seeks to line up more end users and get existing clients to spend more. Microsoft doesn't take such steps lightly, because its Office products fetch almost 24% of its revenue. The move amounts to a subtle refinement for some of the most popular software in the world. In Beijing, the killing of three executives from the state-owned China Railway Construction Corp. In the case of Mali, the French Army ended the nearly nine-year counterterrorism Operation Barkhane, after a major falling-out with Malian authorities, prompting the Wagner Group to step in at Bamako’s request. Without a growing security footprint in the region, China has limited security guarantees in Africa. Gone are the days when the Chinese state-owned enterprises could rely on the Western security umbrella. In the past, the United States and France took the lead in conducting anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations in the region, which helped protect Chinese investments from direct threats. Beijing is facing a conundrum in reconciling that Maoist doctrine with contemporary reality: How to protect Chinese citizens abroad without outsourcing the security function to Wagner-like groups or evolving its own PSCs into to a Blackwater-style force? While Beijing is determined to get more involved in regional security and politics, most notably through President Xi Jinping’s Global Security Initiative, it is unclear when and how the initiative will gain traction. Regardless of the upcoming revision to the 2018 set of security regulations, when it comes to increasing China’s private security footprint abroad, the Chinese Communist Party will employ every means necessary to uphold Mao Zedong’s dictum of retaining absolute control over the gun. While the leading Chinese PSCs such as Haiwei, Huaxin Zhongan, Kunlun Lion Security, and FSG are operating in safer areas from Egypt to Kenya and Uganda, a multitude of small Chinese PSCs are expanding their footprint in much more complex environments without the proper capabilities to counter terrorist and criminal violence. While Beijing is looking at security guarantees from Moscow, Chinese private security companies (PSCs) operating in Africa are bracing for impact. However, despite Beijing’s efforts to strengthen security, the risks faced by Chinese workers and BRI investments are escalating at a faster pace.Ĭhina’s foreign direct investment in Africa, has been increasing steadily since 2003-surging from $75 million in 2003 to $5 billion in 2021. To enhance the security measures for Chinese companies investing abroad, Beijing is ramping up regional threat assessments and offering security training to workers before deploying them overseas. The immediate peril lies in the potential ramifications of Wagner Group splinter factions, or a Wagner franchise under new management, which would compromise the security of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)-and the safety of its overseas workers-in Africa and in other regions. Indeed, the possibility of Moscow failing to rein in Russian mercenaries in areas where Chinese economic interests are present could create a fault line in the Chinese-Russian “no-limit friendship.” Though Beijing eventually put out a public statement of support for the Russian president, it is biding its time-observing how firm Putin’s grip on power is. As the Wagner revolt against the Kremlin unfolded last month, China seemed to pay little attention to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s faltering attempts to restrain the mercenaries, which laid bare the fractures in Moscow. Ideally, by a Registered Dietitian who takes the amount of calcium and your other kidney stone risk factors into account.įor most people with high urine oxalate, I recommend an oxalate amount of around 100mg per day. Instead, the amount of oxalate that is right for you should be individualized to your 24-hour urine results. There isn’t an official amount of oxalate you should eat per day for a low oxalate diet. In fact, not even everyone with oxalate kidney stones needs a low oxalate diet. Not everyone with kidney stones needs a low oxalate diet.
